Celebrating 15 YEARS OF FEMYSO
FEMYSO proudly presents the European Muslim Youth Conference: GET ACTIVE!!!
In order to support Muslim youth involvement in all aspects of European life, FEMYSO is holding its first Annual European Muslim Youth Conference. The conference will bring together 100 leading Muslim youth from a diverse array of backgrounds, organisations and nationalities to discuss the issues affecting Europeand come up with constructive solutions for addressing these issues. The conference will also serve to highlight ongoing initiatives, projects and research being undertaken by European Muslim youth.
The conference is based on the recognition that while there are some major challenges ahead of us, the European Muslim community is an integral and active part of Europe, particularly youth. It is vital to recognise, encourage and foster positive and constructive European Muslim youth initiatives at the grass roots level.
The overall theme of the conference is "Working together for a better tomorrow ... Be part of the solution”. The conference seeks to engage with academics, policy makers, social commentators; youth work practitioners and interested institutions and organisations at the national and international levels. Our varied sessions/workshops will focus on the key themes of concern to Muslim youth in Europe - Citizenship and Identity, Youth Participation and Leadership, Social Cohesion and Diversity (intercultural and inter-religious dialogue) as well as Human Rights and Islamophobia. We believe that it is essential this debate is heard and supported by as many of the key stakeholders, such as yourselves. The aims of conference are the following:
· Encourage knowledge-sharing, cooperation and networking among Muslim youth and organizations across Europe;
· Provide a platform for discussion around new and challenging issues with a view to developing a vision for Muslim youth in Europe;
· Encourage active ethical participation and critical thought within European society;
· Mobilise and build the capacity of European Muslim youth and their organisations, and recognise their contributions and achievements.
Speakers include:
• Tariq Oubrou (Imam, Bordeaux Mosque)
• Khalid Louhichi (Director of Youth, League of Arab States)
• Asmaa Abdolhamid (Danish politician)
• Sajjad Karim MEP (first Muslim member of the European Parliament)

FEMYSO (the Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organisations), which was established in 1996, is the only Muslim youth organisation working at the European level. It has developed into a wide network of 33 member organisations across 22 European countries. Its mission is to facilitate networking between all Muslim youth and student organisations, to enable them to achieve their full potential and to contribute to the development of a diverse, cohesive and fair Europe.
FEMYSO is engaged in various activities in fields such as Human Rights, inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue, citizenship and youth trainings and has become the de facto voice of Muslim Youth in Europe. FEMYSO is the first Muslim youth oriented organisation gathering such a wide variety of youth and student organisations across Europe. Young European Muslims within FEMYSO come from many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, mirroring the diversity of European society. Within this platform and process they want to ask their questions, raise their concerns and present their ideas.
